Who are we?

We are Craig and Gayla Timm and we met in the Fall of 1998 as undergraduates at the University of Michigan. We are a family of four. Our two children were born in 2009 and 2011. While our older child, Maelle, loves to go on road trips with the family, she has severe autism so we generally do not fly with her as it has proved too challenging. But Craig and my love for travel has been transferred to our son Connor.

My first overseas flight was when I was 13 (in 1992) and I flew to London, England. When I was 15 (in 1994) I flew to Italy and the South of France and I was hooked. I spent part of my junior year of university living in Grenoble, France with a French family, studying French during the week and traveling all over Europe on the weekends. It was that year (2000) that my then boyfriend (now husband Craig) came to visit me in Grenoble and we traveled to Paris and Normandy together. A year later the two of us returned to backpack our way around Europe in 2001. Our list of travel is extensive. We’ve indoctrinated our son Connor with a love of traveling too. At the tender age of 8, he’s flown to Shanghai (with a side trip to Nha Trang, Vietnam) and cruised the Mediterranean with stops in Italy, France, and Spain. In early 2020, we will again cruise with Connor, this time to South America and make stops in Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. Connor is able to do 25,000+ steps a day during our travel time, so its easy to have him along on our adventures and share the love of travel with our youngest.
